SALT AND LIGHT

It sure feels like spring in North Carolina.  The birds are gathering and building their nests.  I even have flowers blooming in my yard!  Nature is just as confused by this burst of warmer weather too.

I decided I would research the word “seasons” in my bible because it seemed appropriate with this unusual weather change.  Instead I came across the word “seasoning” which directed me to Matthew 5:13-16, where Jesus speaks of us being like salt and light.

13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. “

Wondering if I had lost my saltiness for God, maybe I should just lick my skin or is it that you lick your skin to tell if you have diabetes?  Ok, so maybe I don’t need to lick my skin, Jesus spoke in parables any way.  And what about my light?  Is it bright and white or is it dull and gray, barely glowing?

Spring is a time of renewal, so now is the time to get a little more saltiness and a brighter light for God!  Who knows how long this inspirational weather will linger around? Because I know if I wait, that sluggard feeling will creep back in and my old familiar routine will begin again.

I am going to take this opportunity to allow my soul to dance in the lightness of the air! My eyes will see God’s world new again!  And love will burst from my heart to everyone I know and meet.  I do mean everyone!

What about you?  You must hurry and enjoy this chance to add a little more salt and a brighter light to your soul.  For that old winter wind may blow again.
