Sandy…Hope on the Horizon

John 16:33 is probably one of the more popular Christian verses, in the bible, about having troubles in life.  Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have troubles. But take heart! I have overcome this world!”

Speaking from the point of view of someone who knows what it is like to experience a natural disaster, you will come through. Jesus overcame this world for us, for you! And this world is just a blink of an eye and so are its’ troubles.

I know how looking around at what was your life, which you painstakingly built full of mementos, moments, and love; gone, can rip your heart from your chest.  But know, Sandy did not take you, your memories, or love away.  In Isaiah 43: 18-19 we are told by God, “Remember not the former things nor consider the things of old.  Behold, I am doing a  new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

Isaiah says to me that it is time to put on your “visionary” glasses and watch the doors of opportunity swing open!  God is ready to do a new thing in your life and you must expose your heart to it! Grieve only for a moment to cleanse your soul of these new wounds and then remember you are God’s child and an American.  When things get tough, Americans get tougher! And when we collectively call upon God, we acquire His strength!

Below are some hopeful verses and thoughts to help sustain you during your difficulty.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare (good things) and not for evil, to give you a future of hope.”

When you can’t take another step forward to renewal.

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Ask God for His help! He can move mountains!

God Bless You!

A Call To Alarm

We have been doing the “30 Days to Live” series at our church, but what if you only had eight hours to live?  In 30 days you have time to examine what is really important in your life and put those first.  In eight hours, especially if you are fighting to protect other Americans  and yourself from terrorists, your decisions are instant and saying goodbye to your loved ones is not an option!

George Washington once put out what is known as “A Call to Arms” advertising broadside asking for the people to take notice and for troops to join his Army during the American Revolution.  Since then and actually before, “A Call to Arms” is a call to action for a country either going into war or already in the midst of a war.  My call is A CALL TO ALARM.  Americans need to be alarmed over the state of our own country and stand up for real change. The time is now!

Recently, there are emails out which show our own top government officials  knew from the moment the attack began at our embassy in Libya, that it was terrorists. They also knew our Americans there needed help!  So the question is, “Why was help not sent, Mr. President?”  Please don’t give me another “it was a video that kept us from crossing the border” excuse.  Those late night talk show hosts might buy it, but the everyday American does not live in a sparkly bubble like they do.

Can you imagine being those two Navy Seals fighting with all of their mental and physical strength to hold their ground until help arrived?  Assistance was one black hawk away. But by hour four, reality must have started to settle in, because there was no whirring over head and guns blasting, only the mortar rounds from the terrorists.

We should have been there slamming those terrorist back to the dust which they came from. Their foreheads should have been healed with, “These are our brothers, our Americans, and you don’t mess with Americans!” The ground should have trembled with our arrival and fear should have extricated down the terrorist’s legs.

How heart breaking it must have been when those American Seals realized that their own country left them to die. A country they had served with honor and exceptional bravery! And what about the other Americans who were inside the safe haven waiting to be rescued. Our White House had left four Americans behind and had failed to protect our American citizens!

Now, what these four Americans might not have realized was the fact that there is a Presidential election going on.  Fund raising and hob knobbing with the Hollywood stars appears to be priority, especially when you are a star yourself. Can’t disappoint those fans!  And who knows, maybe a rap career is in the future for our President and Vice-President.  Because being Commander-in-Chief with the job description of keeping Americans safe, could be just a side job for them.

I would have had more respect for the White House if they said, “we screwed up, dropped the ball, and there is no excuse.”

With the poll number’s gap closing, the pressure on the White House must have been beginning to mount. And to send immediate help would have had to come with the admission that maybe terrorism is not as much on the run, as first espoused by this White House administration. As a matter of fact, terrorists are rampant and curled up like a snake in a hole, waiting to strike again.  It must have been a tough decision, so do the logical thing was to make up a story. No, not a lie, a story.

Geez, the stories that we, Americans, have had shoved down our throats due to blatant arrogance these past four years is enough to choke a continent!

The Apostle Paul stated in 2 Corinthians 3 ” Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, like some people, letters of recommendation to you or from you? 2 You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone. 3 You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.”

Basically he is saying ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS!  What do the last four years say to you about our government’s actions?  Do you have a job or has your pay been cut to support the billions of dollars that they spend? And what do they spend it on? Certainly not to educate our American children, protect our American communities, and stablize our American economy.

If Obama is elected for another four years, we could possibly hit “third world country” status sooner than we think.  And maybe that is the plan. A plan to bring America to the status of the Kenya, Obama warmly remembers from his youth. You know, the Kenya where he and Trump played as youths. So, are we going to sit quietly and become another Kenya, or are we going to be America again?

Whether you agree with me or not, these emails are worth checking out before you vote! Because main stream media is trying to avoid broadcasting about the emails and I believe that their agendas hurt America just as much as own government’s personal agendas. I have provided a link below where you can get the facts before you vote!

Do it because those four Americans deserved better! God bless them and their families!

Day 23 in 30 Days to live, and Martha must die.  Or at least her domineering part.  She seems to loom over me, pushing Mary far down into the dark depths where it is impossible to climb out.  I did not realize how dominant my Martha side really is, until I tried to release my Mary.

Martha is controlling and won’t let me have peace until I have done the busy work she requires.  Every morning, I have the same routine and even when I am reading my devotional, she tries to start ticking off the “to do” list for the day.  She can be loud and obnoxious when demanding my attention!

I read somewhere that wealthy people have a better quality of life because they relax on weekends. You know, take trips and do activities pleasurable to them.  What do we do on weekends?  Fix the house, run errands, and continue working, only in different capacities. Martha strikes again!

And don’t say that they have money to pay people to do their busy work! Don’t remind me their bulging accounts allow them to pursue these luxurious trips! Because,  I believe their Martha is only dominant during the work week and Mary comes out to play on the weekends!

Now, I am sure domineering Martha must die!

I can see how Martha slowly crept in over the years, taking over more and more territory.  Somewhere in my own mindset was the “once this is done, then we will take a break” or “when we retire, we will have the time”.  I should know better than most, that we might not make it to retirement! Who promised us tomorrow, much less ten to twenty years from now? No one and certainly not God.

In James 4:14 we are told, “Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”

If I do have tomorrow, I will plot against Martha.  She will have to learn to take the back seat to Mary! Yes, that is what I will do, this little mist will truly live!

27 Days to Glory!

I have to say this “30 days to live” is tough for me, because I find myself fighting with the “Martha” inside.  You know the story of Martha and Mary, the two sisters who had Jesus over to their home.  While Mary sat at Jesus’ feet, Martha did the cooking and cleaning.  When Martha complained about Mary not helping, Jesus said Mary was doing what was important. Basically the story in a nutshell from the squirrel herself!

It has always been everything else before I do what I enjoy doing.  My passions must wait until the laundry, housework, and family are taken care.  Even exercising is after the main work is done. No wonder, I can’t get in shape. To put my passions first has thrown me a little off balance, but the reward is renewing to my soul!

Can you do it? Can you put your passions first before the day? I will keep trying!

30 Days to Live!

We have finally gotten somewhat settled in Fulshear, Texas.  One of our “to do’s” was to find a church we would all enjoy.  As a family we discussed the importance of finding one that was totally bible based.  You might think it is an easy task, but not so these days!

Christian churches and denominations are trying too hard to be “people pleaser.”  It is a melting pot of wants, desires, and monstrous sized congregations. Abundance and prosperity are the hot words of the day.  And don’t forget where to send your donations! The bible is like a field of fruit trees to these Pastors.  They pick the good fruit bible verses to put on display and leave the bad fruit verses in the dust.  Surely, God did not mean for us to understand His whole Bible.  Only the parts we like.

OK, I will remove my tongue from my cheek.  We are excited that we have found a bible based church, here in Fulshear.  And so far, the Pastor’s sermons are thought-provoking and motivating.  Especially this past Sunday’s sermon which will continue through the month of October.  Have you ever looked forward to going back to church the following Sunday, for next installment?  We are and I am amazed!

The Pastor told us how people give him books to read and he was given the book “30 Days to Live.”  He said as he got into the book, he thought this is what he needed in his life.  The more he read and prayed about it, God revealed this book was what the congregation needed too.

Now, I know what it is like to be looking at my own mortality.  Over 8 years ago, I had a tumor behind my left eye and it was continually growing.  The doctor told me it could be cancer and suddenly I was faced with the fact that my time was up.  Going to heaven did not seem like a terrible option, but my youngest son was 9.  The two other children were grown and had lives of their own.  As someone said to me that I probably felt like I had not finished my job yet.  Fortunately, the tumor was benign, but I have a rare disease called Wegener’s Granulomotosis. And God is good!

Even today, I need a reminder of my mortality.  Whether I know it or not, today could be my last.  Number one priority is “Do I know Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour?”  The answer is yes. Do you?  Number two, 30 days to live passionately and prioritize the important from the mundane!

I am passionate about God, my husband, my children, my grandchildren, and my writing. And this is where my work must begin.  Am I living everyday for them or for the world?  I have half written novels, children’s books, and short stories.  Time to finish them, even if they never sell.  You see I internalized other’s opinions and comments about my first children’s book, The Tent Maker, letting myself and God down.  It is a great book!  So what if I don’t have a degree, and if the English Professors say anyone can write a children’s book.  Did they ever write a book or even try to get published outside of academia?

For thirty days I am to rise from the ashes like a Phoenix and then gloriously return to the dust where I began.  Hopefully it will only be a role play and not the end of the play, but we never know. Join me as I passionately write, prioritize, and love my way through these next 30 days!
