Is God Judging America or Just Disappointed in Christian Americans?

This week we started a new bible study called,”Is God Judging America?”.  The study is very intriguing. So is God really judging America or is He only trying to shake the Christians loose from their pews? The next four weeks will help me to decide.

We began the study at the beginning of America. And yes, I am having to  sweep the US History cobwebs loose. I already knew Christopher Columbus, Spain, and Christianity were three common elements resulting in the discovery of America. But did you know that the manifestos of the Pilgrims and the Puritans read like a blueprint of Israel?

You will have to come back next week to hear more about their blueprints. Right now, I want to discuss the “questions and comments” part at the end of the lecture. Here are a few of them…

“We need prayer back in schools.”

“Where were the our religious leaders when they removed the ten commandments from the government buildings?”

“Our leaders need to step up and do their jobs!”

And so on!

Once again my ears tingled with the woeful cries to rally, change, solve, and redeem our nation. A loud resonating sound, which is usually followed by the deafening silence of no action. They reminded me of “arm-chair” quarterbacks during Sunday football season. And that is exactly where I am. I can tell you what to do, but would rather you execute the action.

Why, am I too guilty of no action?

Because deep in the recesses of my somewhat questionable mind, I remember my own painful days of standing firm and assisting the charge up the hill of change.  At the bottom we were many, but by the top, we were few.  When I look back and assess these situations, I discover one conclusive fact.  The fact that the faint-hearted, weak-minded, rubber backboned and soft lazy lifestyle types, are not equipped for this rigorous climb.

They were most appreciative, though, that we made the climb for them. Thankful that they nor their family, had to endure the repercussions.  Grateful, the only laborious work they incurred was operating the mechanics of their mouth. And proudly pleased with their laying of the gossip foundation.  Yes, they were most appreciative.

And once you have been burned this way, you hesitate to give further help.

I know, myself and other Christians need to band together soon, before the Christian America is no more.  We must rise from our bench warming pews and be pebbles in the middle of our community ponds. As we, Christians retake our schools, our towns, our cities, and our governing bodies back; we will see the ripples spreading wider and wider.

Didn’t Jesus give us the great commission in Matthew 28?

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

So, pick those splinters out of your hind section and remember the wooden cross they nailed Jesus to, for you.  And then pick up your cross, and start reclaiming Christian America!

One community, one fight at a time.

If You Are Struggling With Cancer, This is For You!

Lately, we are seeing more of our friends and family under attack by “cancer.” Maybe it is our age and that time of life, or maybe it is the environment we now all live in.  None-the- less, this word can bring you to the realization of our world’s limitations; and our lives’.

Now in my family, we have seen the worst of cancer.  My mother, Sondra West Nelson, my father-in-law, Millard Eugene Berry II, and my sister-in-law, Pamela Jean Berry; all succumbed to this terrible disease.  And we the family, died a little with each one.

While praying, yesterday, for friends and family stricken with this notorious invader, God brought to mind Psalm 79. I picked up my bible and began to read the psalm. The first part is Israel complaining to God about the invasion which has happened to them.

I could not help to think, “Wow, Lord, this is cancer. Cancer is a notorious invader of our bodies!” Then it dawned on me that this psalm could be utilized for a prayer about being sick with cancer!

Like I have stated in the past, “I am one of God’s hard-headed children and slow to learn. He has to knock me to my knees or explain 2 and 2 together.” My eyes are now wide open!

Psalm 79

1 O God, the nations have invaded your inheritance;
they have defiled your holy temple,
they have reduced Jerusalem to rubble.

Beginning of my prayer…O God, cancer has invaded your inheritance, your child;  cancer has defiled the dwelling place of your Holy Spirit and reduced it to rubble.

The middle part of the psalm is a petition to God for help.

8 Do not hold against us the sins of past generations; may your mercy come quickly to meet us, for we are in desperate need.

My prayer…Please forgive me of my past sins, known and unknown; may your healing mercies come quickly to me, for I am in desperate need of You, O Lord!

The last part is praise.

13 Then we your people, the sheep of your pasture,
    will praise you forever;
from generation to generation
    we will proclaim your praise.

My prayer...Father, as your healing mercies bathe me, this lost sheep of your pasture, praises You. I will praise you throughout my sickness and throughout my health, until we meet in Heaven! Amen.

Ok, I am always amazed at the words, God so graciously gives me to write.  This prayer is for all who are suffering with sickness. I pray it will ease your pain, and fill your heart with hope.  For it is written and given in love!

End of the Rainbow

rainboflag

And so, America has come to the end of the rainbow.  Once the land of plenty and bursting with new opportunity, she now resembles a shell of her ghostly prosperous past.

Where did the road curve and break off to this extreme diversion?  Or did it slowly move into our horizon year after year?  Was the sun rise of our complacency,  the sunset of our country? Did we replace God, one too many times, with agreeing nods, plugged ears, and shaded eyes?

As Americans, our focus became “self.” Freedom meant living our lives on our own terms, and not caring about the outcome. We greedily bore children into the land of the free and the home of the brave. Only to give them television, computers, and gaming devices as their substitute parents.  Church, Sunday School, and Christian Fellowship was the place of man-made extremist rules. So we did other, more self satisfying activities.

Now, upon the forced evacuation of this fairy-tale, we are face to face with what we have sown. Our children, grand children, and great-grandchildren will bear our burden and may never know the real America!

So, what the devil did you expect would happen? Did you think the Mother Earth Fairy or the BudhaAlahaGod fairy god would wipe your nose, clean your butt, and make everything right again? Uh…hello…the alarm clock is ringing! Time to get out of the pity mud and do something!

For too long, we have put our dreams in cracked pots, and they have slowly leaked away. Our Government, is the prime example of  “cracked pots” running things!

But, I know the sealant for these “cracked pots” and by the way, we are “cracked pots” too. You see, God uses “cracked pots” and even the broken pieces, to display His power and His love for us. In Corinthians, we are told what God can do with us, His jars of clay, if we turn to Him!

2 Corinthians 4:6-7

“For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.

God is waiting. He was there in the beginning and will be there past the end.

We must come together, cry out to God, and allow Him to show us how to create real change. Divisional lines and the blame game will send America to the dust. But, God can seal our cracks and fill us with Living Water! He can revive America!
