United States of America Veterans and Service Men ( We Remember and Salute You!)

For You, our Veterans and Service Men, who have sacrificed so much, to ensure our continued safety here on American soil and in foreign lands.

I Salute You!

For the times you were weary, and bloodied from the battles that you fought; knowing your only refuge was in God’s Grace Filled Hands.

I Salute You!

For the times you never let America down,  and served diligently, always prepared to live and die for the ultimate stand.

I Salute You!

The minuscule words of “Thank You”, could not hold the meaning of your service nor, should you never misunderstand.

How indebted America is to you, and your family. For no greater love is there, than to lay down your life for another.

And yet, you give your life freely for millions of unknown American sisters and brothers.

I Salute You!

God Bless You and God Bless America!

I wrote this blog for Veteran’s Day, yet I believe it speaks to Memorial Day too! We should never forget the great sacrifice of our military men and women…Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow!

Was America Founded on Christian Beliefs?

Everyone knows the story of Christopher Columbus and how the King and Queen of Spain financed his expeditions. But did you know that one of the main reasons for the expeditions was to spread Christianity? The King and Queen of Spain were Christians, and so was Christopher Columbus.

It was important to them, to have Monks on the ships. Their sole job was to spread Christianity to the new lands.  And the reason, you may not have known Christopher Columbus was a Christian is because more emphasis is placed on the latter years of his life. A time when he went “buck wild” (a Southern phrase used to explain lascivious behavior).

For once, let’s put “history by man” aside and look through the eyes of faith. So, my question to you is “Could America have been one of God’s finely detailed designs, or was it man’s accidental bumping into land?”

As we look at the first two groups to establish settlements in America. They were the Puritans and the Pilgrims. The definition for Puritan is…a member of a group of English Protestants of the late 16th and 17th centuries who regarded the Reformation of the Church of England under Elizabeth as incomplete and sought to simplify and regulate forms of worship. The definition for Pilgrim is…a person who undertakes a journey to a sacred place as an act of religious devotion. The American Pilgrims were Separatists Christians who did not want to conform to the ways of the Church of England.

They wanted religious freedom, but there is more…

An intriguing fact about each of these groups is that they wrote a Manifesto or Mission Statement of their goals for America. Even though these two groups were quite separate from their associations, they both had the same goal.  To establish America as a new Jerusalem!

I know, Jerusalem is in the Middle East, not anywhere near where America is located. But a new Jerusalem would be very appealing to any Christian. Or at least to a new land who followed the successful blueprint of the Israeli state.

You see, at one time, Israel had God’s favor and they flourished in every way.  They were so protected that no one could attack them on their soil without immediate defeat.  Israel was chosen,  prosperous, and protected! Thus they become a mighty nation; until they turned away from God.  And then, the most powerful nation in the world fell.

The Puritans and the Pilgrims wanted America to have God’s favor.  They set about establishing this land for Godly people, who would keep His commandments. And, America rose from the sand of our seas, peaks of our mountains, and the dust of our deserts. We became the most powerful nation in the world! But did we become the new Jerusalem?

I believe we were the new Jerusalem!  We did rise to power and prosperity. No one could attack us on our soil. And now, sadly, it does appear that we too have lost our prosperity, protection, and chosen status.  America followed the Israeli blueprint, right down to making the same mistake of turning away from God!

Why else would we have been vulnerable to the attack of September 11, when our enemies could not get to us before?

Why has our economy tanked?

Why is our government socialist rather than democratic ?

Why is our poor, poorer and our hungry, hungrier?

So, “Can America turn back to God, or are we doomed to end?”

What do you think?
