Smile, It Will Make People Wonder!

Some days I know I am a grouch with a frown on my face and a growl under my breath. And why? Oh, some little something got in my way, aggravated me, or just plain made me mad.  Once again, “And Why?”

Because I have forgotten who I am, who my Father is, and why I am here! How about you?

In the book of Proverbs, there are many wise sayings, to help  us maneuver our daily lives.

“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.” Proverbs 17:22

So true!

When I am smiling and content, I have joy in my step and energy to complete my day.  But, when I am grouchy, I am tired! Nap required.

And that is why, “I Love the Lord!”

Every morning, I lie in bed and pray sometimes for thirty minutes, sometimes an hour.  I start out being grateful and praising my Lord, then we discuss my sins and my forgiveness; and then I move onto my petitions or just what is worrying my mind.

Now this is not an ATM prayer! God give me, give me, give me! You see, after I go through the grateful part, I realize that He has given me all I need and more. Importantly, I know He will supply me with what I need, every thing else is like having extra Christmas presents to unwrap each day! The sin part keeps me grounded, also.  I am human, and I sin day in and day out, but I try to consciously do better each day.

Yes, “I Love the Lord!”

My message to you is to realize when you are grouchy and to consciously turn it around.  Start with counting your blessings, write ten of them down on a piece of paper.  Then write down why you are having a bad day. Compare the two.  Number one should be, “I am God’s child. He loves me from here through eternity.”  Is there a real comparison?

Yes, “I Love the Lord!”

Next, do something kind for someone else. Think back to an unusually joyous day. When you encountered a stranger, how did they respond to your happy attitude? Made you feel good on the inside too.

I know, all to well, about difficult times and the immense struggles this life can bring. But to even be sad with a hopeful heart that tomorrow can be better, is where you will find the difference.

By now, you should know where my hope comes from! If not let me give you a hint…

We Are Not of This World

And by my title, I don’t mean we are “Mork from Ork” either.

Side note:  God bless Robin Williams and his family. He used his God-given gift of humor and love of humanity to try to make this world kinder and gentler, with a few more smiling faces! Sometimes the pain of this world overwhelms you  and you have to go home, where we all belong! Robin is now home.

Now, back to the rest of us aliens.

In the bible, we are told over and over that we are not of this world.

1 John 2:15-17 (NIV)

15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

Basically saying this world dies, but we are creatures who were made to live forever! A perfect example of how fleeting the things of this world really are; is Hollywood and the Music Industry.  For some unknown reason people follow them for their news and advice on life. “Really?!” (So disturbing to me.) From one generation to the next; people, places, and things which were popular then, are no longer the muse of today. They die and fade into oblivion.

A perfect example are the Rockers who were drunkards and drug addicts. They now profess the sober, healthy lifestyle. Why? A quick death does not become them especially when the old survival instincts kick into gear. They want to live!

How many of you had a cassette player, or even an eight track player? Where are they now?

Things of this life are temporary!

God is forever! And He wants us to be forever too.  That is why there are warnings after warnings in the bible about chasing after trends, and ideals of today’s world.

As I was scanning through the news on the internet, an article stopped me.  The article talked about an entertainer who stopped his concert because not all of the people were standing and dancing along to his singing. The first thing that came to my mind was, “Man, he is so of this world.”  And then the ridiculousness of someone telling the people; who paid the excessive amount of his tickets, who support his multi-million dollar life style, what to do! “So of this world.”

The next part of the article showed a picture of the entertainer and his wife. Who, by the way, was attired in her fashion-forward outfit. Why wear clothes at all if you are going to dress with nothing to hide? I say then hide nothing.  And does this man have no pride at all than to let other men lust after his wife? It does not seem so, because he proudly displays to the world exactly what he bought.  So to speak.

Where has class and dignity gone in this world? I believe they have gone with God. Because if you truly have God in your life, then you are clothed with class and dignity!  But if you are, of this world,  you are a shining example through your words, actions, and yes (in my opinion) even dress.

Start today and take one thing, which you know without a doubt is worldly, and eliminate it from your life.  If you buy designer shoes, take the money and buy a meal or a week’s worth of groceries for a needy family. Do you laugh at dirty jokes at the office, gossip, or use foul language? Put a rubber band on your arm and pop yourself each time you do. It will make you aware and before long, you won’t be doing it anymore.

You can figure out what to take from your life by asking God, “Father, what do I need to eliminate from my life to bring me closer to You?” And be prepared for the answer.

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

Never Forget September 11!

Today is a day in America, full of emotion.  A day back in 2001, which brought about destruction on American soil and revival within American Christians.  It is good to remember both, the sad and the good which resulted from tragedy.

To those who have fought for and serve our nation proudly, this is for you.

To those who place their hand over their heart and pledge their allegiance to America, this is for you.

To those who proudly fly our flag, this is for you.

To those who speak out on the injustices of our country, this is for you.

And to those who go before God each and every day, remembering in their prayers American leaders and citizens, this is for you.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
    where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
    the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel (and America)
    will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you—
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm—
    he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.

Psalm 121
