I know a lot of times we run through our days of work, home, and play. But there are the times when we do stop to ponder the moment. Those times for me are when I see children playing or hear the cry of a baby.
It is a simple reminder that children are the lifeblood of a community, state, nation, and yes, even a church! Everyone will die from this earthly life, but God has blessed us with a continuation of His children. Our children. Not only are they the lifeblood of mankind moving forward, but they see with new eyes, hear with new ears, and love with new hearts. How can we not hope “the children” will get it better than we did?
Our family has been blessed with being members of two amazing churches, through the growing years of our family. The first one was Benton Heights Presbyterian Church in Monroe, N.C. and the second one is now River Bend Baptist Church in Fulshear, Texas. No, neither one is a mega, rock concert service type of church! Both of their sizes in under the five hundred member mark. But the important, small things are not missed either.
These two churches, even thought they are states apart, share one valuable asset. They know the value of their children! No one is left out when it comes to play groups, youth groups, and church events. As a matter of fact, both churches go to the maximum effort to provide exceptional resources, retreats, and memories for their children and young adults.
So, what does this have to do with spreading the Gospel and saving the world?
Children are the Gospel Spreaders of today and tomorrow. There is nothing better than to see God through the eyes of a child! And children love to explain everything they know. If we take the time to listen.
So, your job is simple. Just introduce and immerse them in the word of God daily. And then try to be the best Christian example for them to imitate. Remember though, to add a little mercy and forgiveness to the lesson plan! For we are all broken and we all sin.
You will soon see your children beginning to resemble little pebbles that are thrown into a pond. And their ripples will freely flow out into communities, cities, states, and even nations. School yards will become safe havens, not bully zones and neighborhoods might become neighborly once again.
So I say…Let the children lead the way!
“All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children.” Isaiah 54:13
But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.” Mark 10:14
