New Year’s Resolutions (Bah Humbug!)

Every year, I watch friends and family set themselves up for failure, for the next year of their lives! I, myself, have done it too. The culprit is those darn ole New Year’s Resolution lists we all seem to be pressured into making.

And, being true to our American upbringing, we ask too much of ourselves and others. Which ultimately brings about disappointment, depression, and personal dislike! So this year, I have figured out a way to turn a disastrous  tradition into a glorious next year.

You have to make a New Year’s Prayer list concerning you, and your immediate family. Write it down and place in your bible. Every morning take your prayer list out, read scripture, and then pray to God about the things you want for yourself and your family. If you are not sure where to start in scripture, I suggest the book of Psalms.

I bet you are saying, “Joni what if I want to lose weight or even win the lottery, do I ask God for those things too?”

My answer is absolutely!

Try putting it to God this way…

“Lord…Thank you for everything that you do for me and my family. I am truly grateful. Please forgive me of my sins and help me to be a better person each day.”

Then continue with your requests.

“Father…My weight has been an issue for a while now and I can not stick to a diet or exercise program.  Help me to discern food choices and snacking habits that are unhealthy, and show me how to find time to exercise.”

“Father…I really want to win the lottery. It would make my life perfect and think of all of the people I could help!”

Because, you might as well be honest with God. He knows the truth about all of us anyway. Just in case no one has every told you, God is a mind and heart reader! Knows all things, sees all things, and was here before the Universe began.

Now, once you have talked over your issues and desires, then move onto your kids, grandkids, spouses, parents, and parents-in-law.  Once finished with your prayer, put the list back in your bible for tomorrow.  Do this everyday for thirty days. Then review the past month and it might surprise you!

The Review Might Go…

Did God wave His wand and you won the lottery? Or did He show you the  “gifts” in your life mean more than a million dollars?

Did you find yourself eating a healthy sandwich and/or salad, instead of the fast food drive thru?

Are you turning your favorite music on every night and having a dance party for yourself and maybe the kids too?

Did a wayward child turn their life over to God?

Have the words “two becoming one” become the description for you and your spouse’s relationship?

Are your own desires and prayer requests changing?

You might be surprised at your answers to some of these questions.

It is amazing what God can accomplish in thirty days as compared to what we can accomplish.

You see, we make long lists of “to do” until we overwhelm ourselves into non-action (New Year’s Resolution list). Instead, we can give our wants and desires to God on a daily basis and allow Him to take us by the hand; and walk us through one baby step at a time! Instant action. {New Year’s Prayer List.}

Our human controlled lives are all about the “to do,” and our lives with God in control are “Tah Dah!”

Happy New Year! And may God bless you and your family in 2016 with all the “Tah Dahs” imaginable!
