Sundays Only? (or Not…)

Everyday, I enter my prayer closet with a million things swirling around in my head.  And I am so excited to talk to God and start my day with Him, that I am literally running on spiritual speed. So, the first thing I have to do is to slow myself down! I do this by reading over my bible verses which are taped to the wall.

My favorite bible verse is  Jeremiah 29:11-12.

Jeremiah 29:11 starts with, ” I know the plans I have for you.”

Now this is God, maker of the universe, stating He has plans me and my family! And then He goes on describing those plans.

“Plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Wow, mental overload!

But it is verse 12 which overwhelms my heart. My eyes tear, and I get choked up trying to read it.

“Then you will call upon me, and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.”

God, the great “I AM,” is going to listen to what I have to say.  Me, one little speck of formed dust, is important to the Alpha and the Omega. It is mind boggling!

You could not give me billions of dollars or super star status to take the place of my relationship with God and His love in my life. Not in this world or the next.

HE is my all and all!

So, why I am I sharing this with you? You say that you asked God into your heart years ago and go to church on Sundays?

Because I want you to know the miraculous love of a real relationship with Jesus Christ; 7 days a week, 24 hours a day! More importantly, God desires the same relationship with you! Not just on Sundays.

And here is the real kicker…Soon your world will be enough.  Enough money, enough house, enough status; enough of the worldly glitter and gold. And you will find yourself not being able to do enough to help others!

A life worthy of living and not just surviving.

So, how would someone start to have a relationship with God? Well, it does not happen over night, and it is work at first. Then, the relationship becomes second nature, like breathing in and out. You will find yourself turning to God for every decision, big and small, and begin seeing others as God sees them.

My suggestion would be to get a bible and find the bible verses concerning having a relationship with God. Write them down. Here are five to get you started.

  1. Phillippians 4:6-7
  2. 1 Peter 5:6-7
  3. John 14:27
  4. Psalm 34:17-19
  5. Isaiah 40:31

Find a quiet place to sit and start by reading over the bible verses.  Then talk to God like you would your best friend. Thank Him for every detail of your life, ask forgiveness of your sins and discuss everything pressing in your heart and mind. Then, and this is harder than you think…be quiet. Listen for God to speak to your heart.

You are God’s most precious child. He wants you to make Him your mentor and partner in this life and the next!

God is waiting right now on you. Don’t be late.

Try for 30 days and see the difference in your life. If you would like to tell me about your journey to God or send pictures showing where you meet with God; email me at

Running of the Wolves (Politics as Usual)

My, oh my, this race for the White House is becoming more interesting every day! The weeding out process has begun for the Republicans, and the Democrats have a very heated neck to neck race. Are we Americans finally awake from our coma of indifference?

I hope so!

Now if we would only realize the newscasters and news station are also akin to paid lobbyist. Someone is in someone’s money pocket and they espouse their supporter’s perspective.  So don’t let what they say influence who gets your vote either.

A great way to find your candidate is to follow what Matthew said in the bible.

15“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16“You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? 17“So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit.…Matthew 7:15-17.

What kind of fruit has your candidate produced in the past, and what kind of seed is your candidate sowing today? One way to find out is to Google your candidate and read their various biographical information.

We have a lot of ravenous wolves out there competing for your vote! Remember wolves run in packs, so these are not lone wolf candidates either. Who bends their ear while filling their pockets with money? Information well worth finding out.

If we Americans would become our own pack of wolves, united in the success of America, wow; amazing, even miraculous events might occur! And that is why both parties and the candidates would rather keep it divisive.  But that would end their control over you and your future.

The next issues are what I feel a candidate should be discussing and laying out a plan of action…

  • Create a prosperous environment for small businesses to thrive.
  • Raise teacher, fire, police, emergency personnel, and military’s pay to reflect their importance.
  • Lower government official’s salaries and perks.
  • End corporate lobbying.
  • Control pharmaceutical companies ability to rape the ill.
  • Place an exorbitant amount of taxes on American companies who ship out the labor only to ship their product back into America!
  • Secure our country.

If your candidate is discussing white against black, male against female, rich against poor, or even Republican against Democrat; you’ve got the wrong candidate!

May God be with you and give you the ability to discern which candidate is right for you, your family, and America!

Cam Newton (Showboater Extraordinaire)

Reading the Super Bowl articles surrounding the upcoming game this Sunday, I find myself fairly amused. It appears that the main topic of discussion is Cam Newton and his showboating.

Really people?

Somewhere along the way you have forgotten what life is all about; so I will remind you. Life is a celebration! And I will have to say Cam knows how to celebrate.

Psalm 118:2 4 states, “This is the day that the Lord has made, let us REJOICE and be GLAD in it.”

Maybe you don’t see it that way. Or maybe you are a Christian who has gotten the cross stuck to the wrong part of your anatomy? You know, the Christian who has the cross strapped to their backs, carrying the burdens of the world or assuming they are the “right way” police.  When in reality we should have the cross directly in front of us…leading the way!

And don’t forget this bible verse…

Luke 6:37 “Judge not and you will not be judged: condemn not, and you shall not be condemned: forgive and you shall be forgiven.”

I admit I forget that verse from time to time and get caught up in the critical whirlwind of others and the world. Because I am human. Then I have to get down on my knees and ask God for forgiveness, and for Him to give me His eyes to see.

Do you see others and situation through the eyes of God?

You know, when I look at Cam Newton, I am reminded of another showboater, a much bigger showboater! King David from the bible and our Christian history.

If you have read your bible, you know King David was no saint. But we are told David had a heart like God’s heart and he followed His God-given destiny.

King David slew Goliath and he coveted a friend’s wife. King David was a braggart and had the friend killed so that he could marry his friend’s wife. Yet, God saw David through his heart. And made King David’s blood line the blood line through which we were saved!

The right heart provided the right pathway to salvation.

Once, at a youth convention, I heard a Pastor describe David, saying that David was known to go outside in his “tightey whiteys” and dance and sing and play music.  All the while praising the God he loved. And, he did not care who saw him or what they thought about it.

David knew who he belonged to and I believe Cam does too.

I wonder what you would have thought of David if you were there? Think about it…Here is a King standing in his courtyard almost naked and singing and praising God at the top of his lungs. Why you would probably call him a drunkard or even crazy!

Cam Newton has a God-given dream placed within his heart. A dream that burns with uncontainable fire and energy. And he is just another young man following his dream and honoring God by playing football to the very best of his ability.

If I were to exchange places with Cam, I too would be dancing, high fiving, and acting crazy over my successes. And I would not care what you thought because I know who I belong to, also. This is a once in a lifetime chance and a football career is usually a short career.  Give the kid a break!

What about your dream and your heart? Do you honor God in everything you do with the same fire, energy, and very best ability? Maybe a little singing and dancing around while praising God might revive your own dream. God chose you for this earth and gave your heart a special dream! Don’t let this world squash it!

Remember who you belong to, God.

And if someone else is adding their own joy to this world, smile and know God must surely be there!

For my Carolina Panthers…”KEEP ON POUNDING!”
