Reading the Super Bowl articles surrounding the upcoming game this Sunday, I find myself fairly amused. It appears that the main topic of discussion is Cam Newton and his showboating.
Somewhere along the way you have forgotten what life is all about; so I will remind you. Life is a celebration! And I will have to say Cam knows how to celebrate.
Psalm 118:2 4 states, “This is the day that the Lord has made, let us REJOICE and be GLAD in it.”
Maybe you don’t see it that way. Or maybe you are a Christian who has gotten the cross stuck to the wrong part of your anatomy? You know, the Christian who has the cross strapped to their backs, carrying the burdens of the world or assuming they are the “right way” police. When in reality we should have the cross directly in front of us…leading the way!
And don’t forget this bible verse…
Luke 6:37 “Judge not and you will not be judged: condemn not, and you shall not be condemned: forgive and you shall be forgiven.”
I admit I forget that verse from time to time and get caught up in the critical whirlwind of others and the world. Because I am human. Then I have to get down on my knees and ask God for forgiveness, and for Him to give me His eyes to see.
Do you see others and situation through the eyes of God?
You know, when I look at Cam Newton, I am reminded of another showboater, a much bigger showboater! King David from the bible and our Christian history.
If you have read your bible, you know King David was no saint. But we are told David had a heart like God’s heart and he followed His God-given destiny.
King David slew Goliath and he coveted a friend’s wife. King David was a braggart and had the friend killed so that he could marry his friend’s wife. Yet, God saw David through his heart. And made King David’s blood line the blood line through which we were saved!
The right heart provided the right pathway to salvation.
Once, at a youth convention, I heard a Pastor describe David, saying that David was known to go outside in his “tightey whiteys” and dance and sing and play music. All the while praising the God he loved. And, he did not care who saw him or what they thought about it.
David knew who he belonged to and I believe Cam does too.
I wonder what you would have thought of David if you were there? Think about it…Here is a King standing in his courtyard almost naked and singing and praising God at the top of his lungs. Why you would probably call him a drunkard or even crazy!
Cam Newton has a God-given dream placed within his heart. A dream that burns with uncontainable fire and energy. And he is just another young man following his dream and honoring God by playing football to the very best of his ability.
If I were to exchange places with Cam, I too would be dancing, high fiving, and acting crazy over my successes. And I would not care what you thought because I know who I belong to, also. This is a once in a lifetime chance and a football career is usually a short career. Give the kid a break!
What about your dream and your heart? Do you honor God in everything you do with the same fire, energy, and very best ability? Maybe a little singing and dancing around while praising God might revive your own dream. God chose you for this earth and gave your heart a special dream! Don’t let this world squash it!
Remember who you belong to, God.
And if someone else is adding their own joy to this world, smile and know God must surely be there!
For my Carolina Panthers…”KEEP ON POUNDING!”
As always…God Bless You and God Bless America!
