Breast Cancer, Giving Back (It Is What We All Should Do!)

My own mother passed away over fifteen years ago from breast cancer.  I watched as the mighty woman of 4’11 and 1/2 inches tall, whither away to a minuscule 40 lbs when she died.  The 1/2 inches I added onto to her height, is because she would always add it when asked how tall she was.

Dynamite does come in small packages! But, not even dynamite can beat man’s chemo.

Cancer does not discriminate between gender, race, or even age.  It can ravage the body of a child while the parents stand by watching helplessly.  My own prayer list for healing seems to get longer every day with the word cancer beside each name.  And I am always looking for ways to help or give back whenever I can.

One of my favorite ways to give back to various organizations is to buy from those companies who give a portion of their profits back to communities, and different disease/cure funds.  I recently bought a red  iPhone from Apple because part of my purchase price goes to help fight AIDS. Would I have bought the phone without the charity? No.  I would have waited until my other phone disintegrated first.

One word of warning…Do not give your money to just any organization that comes along.  Sadly a lot of them use the non-profit status and charity to pay themselves six figure salaries.  With only 10% of the money going to their named charity.  You can google the web and find out who gives what and how much before sending your money!

My affiliate WPEngine sent out a recent email concerning giving to Avon’s Walk for Breast Cancer.  Here is the email with the links should you care to give.

Hi Joni,

One of WP Engine’s core values is “Aspiring to Lead, Committed to Give Back.” Today we are taking a step back from our normal promotional email and give back to a charity within our community. Our friends at Affiliate Summit are leading a team in the Avon39, raising money to power breast cancer research and fund programs that support those with breast cancer.

The WP Engine team is donating to the cause and we are hoping you will join in as well. To donate, go to affiliatemarketersgiveback.com and help Missy Ward & Shawn Collins reach their team donation goals. You can also help out by spreading the good word through your social media channels.

God Bless You!
